Scenes of the Occupation from Gaza (1973) | Mustafa Abu Ali
Mustafa Abu Ali (1940–2009) is one of the pioneers of Palestinian documentary cinema. His film “Scenes of the Occupation from Gaza” is a significant example of the early efforts of Palestinian cinema to document the experience of people living under occupation. The film’s importance lies primarily in its historical and archival function; it’s a visual document that marked the beginning of the formation of the language of Palestinian documentary cinema in the 1970s.

Fertile Memory (1980) Michel Khleifi
Michel Khleifi (1950–…..) is a Palestinian filmmaker based in Belgium. His film “Fertile Memory” is his first feature-length documentary and one of the foundational works of Palestinian cinema. In this film, by moving away from ideological expression, he connects individual experience to a collective issue and, for the first time, brings Palestinian cinema out of a purely journalistic and media framework and into an artistic realm.
